A man from Gloucester suffered extensive dental injuries after bumping into a fellow reveller at Liquid nightclub, a court has heard.

Edward Parsloe suffered severe damage to his front teeth and a gum infection after accidentally bumping into Robert Freeman at the nightclub in September 2010. Prosecutor, James Cranfield, told Gloucester Crown Court that Mr Parsloe had been forced to visit his dentist on several occasions after the incident and developed a gum infection, which made matters worse.

Freeman, who has a history of violence, was given a 12 month suspended jail sentence and ordered to pay Mr Parsloe £500 in compensation and was also ordered to attend an alcohol treatment programme.

Mr Cranfield told the court that Mr Parsloe had accidentally bumped into Freeman at Liquid nightclub in the centre of Gloucester and described Freeman’s reaction as “aggressive”. He said that there had been no problem until Parsloe and his friends went to leave the club at around 2:10am, when Freeman faced Parsloe and head-butted him in the face. Parsloe fell to the ground and his front teeth were knocked loose.

Mr Cranfield said that his client had suffered severe dental injuries and had visited a dentist at least 12 times. He also claimed that Mr Parsloe has suffered a loss of confidence as a result of the damage done to his front teeth and no longer feels comfortable smiling around others. He also highlighted Freeman’s criminal record.

In Freeman’s defence, Jason Coulter said that he realised his client’s actions had “passed the custody threshold” but said that the probation service had indicated that they could help him and are aiming to tackle the problem of Freeman becoming aggressive and losing control after drinking.
