The General Dental Council has fined the creator of the infamous metal smile sported by Bond villain, Jaws, after he admitted that he falsely claimed to be a dental technician.

The General Dental Council, which is responsible for regulating dental professionals in the UK, has prosecuted Luis Fairman, after he admitted that he made false claims about his qualifications. Mr Fairman is the owner of the firm, which was selected to make Jaws actor, Richard Kiel’s iconic metal teeth, for the films Moonraker and The Spy Who Loved Me.

Mr Fairman faced allegations about claims he made during a YouTube video, which was filmed in November last year. The video, which was called, ‘NHS Dentistry- Ed’s Story’, featured Mr Fairman making claims that he was a dental technician, despite the fact that he is not registered to work in the UK.

By law, all dental professionals in the UK must be registered with the GDC. In court in East Cornwall, Mr Fairman admitted that he had made unlawful claims and confirmed that he had said that he was a dental technician even though he was not legally allowed to work in the UK. The GDC also confirmed that Fairman had never been on the GDC register.

Fairman is the owner of Bodmin Dental Lab, which hit the headlines in 1977 after it was selected to create Mr Kiel’s metal mouth, which has since become one of the most iconic looks from the film series.

Fairman has been fined £500 and ordered to pay the same amount towards legal fees; he has also been asked to pay a fine of £50 victim surcharge after admitting to going against the Dentists Act 1984.
