A rugby star turned dentist has plenty to smile about after taking over a village dental practice. Shane Roiser, who is perhaps best known for his darting runs on the rugby pitch, has realised his dream of owning his own dental practice.

Mr Roiser, once a Wasps player, has signed on the dotted line and is now looking forward to taking the reigns at the Village Dental Centre in Patcham. Mr Roiser, who has earned the affectionate title of ‘no pain Shane’ due to his gentle approach, has taken over from dentist Nigel Kennedy.

Mr Roiser enjoyed an illustrious career in rugby, joining Wasps the day after he graduated with a degree in Dentistry from Guy’s Hospital in London. The dream was always to excel on the pitch and turn to dentistry once his playing days were over. Now, thanks to a loan from the Royal Bank of Scotland, he owns his own practice and is looking forward to a bright future.

Mr Roiser retired in 2004 and says that his experiences on the pitch helped him to make the transition from changing rooms to treatment rooms. He learned from the leadership of players like Lawrence Dallaglio and learned the importance of working as a team and being there for each other. He uses these values in his day to day work at the surgery and is very popular with his patients.

Mr Roiser joined the Patcham practice in 2013.
