Fire crews were called to a dental practice in the centre of Chichester on Monday afternoon.

Police closed the road around the Little London Dental Centre at 3.30 pm after all three emergency services were called to the surgery.

One eye witness said that he had seen a man covered in foam being helped out to an ambulance, which was parked outside the dental practice. Reports released later in the afternoon confirmed that a man was treated for burns after his clothing set alight in the reception area of the surgery. It is believed that a can of lighter fluid was involved, but further details of the incident have not yet been released. The man was conscious and was talking and able to walk independently; he was treated for burns on his chest at St Richard’s Hospital.

In total, two fire engines, two ambulances and several police officers were called to the scene.

The fire was restricted to the man’s clothing and no damage was caused to the dental practice.
