A father and son team from Newton Mearns near Glasgow has completed a gruelling cycle challenge to raise money to buy medical and dental equipment.

Jonno Hanna and his father, Gavin, travelled to Los Angeles to complete a 30 day cycle challenge, which saw them covering 100 miles per day. The duo left on June 24th and headed towards Annapolis but they encountered some tough challenges along the way, including soaring temperatures and high winds. For 27 consecutive days, the duo pedalled together, taking on tough terrain and obstacles along the way. Due to a heat wave, the duo pulled out of one day of cycling, as it was not advisable to cycle in 118 degree heat but they crossed the line after 27 days and 2,420 miles and were delighted to complete the challenge.

Gavin and Jonno, who is 16, were cycling in aid of the Vine Trust and the money they have raised will be used to send medical and dental supplies to Africa. The pair has already raised more than £4,000 and they are hoping that the final sum will be around £4,500; this will pay for a ship to take out equipment and supplies that are desperately needed in African countries.

Gavin praised his son for his bravery and endurance and said that they were a great team and they stuck together through thick and thin.
