Estelle: I always wanted braces

R n' B singer Estelle has denied claims that she had braces fitted on her teeth as a result of pressure from her record label.

The Sun recently reported that the London-born singer was told by Atlantic Records that she needed a smile makeover.

Speaking to hip hop website SOHH.com, Estelle explained that the braces were her own choice.

"I think because I got braces everyone said the label said it," she explained. "I've been trying to get braces since 2000 and I finally did it."

"But no, it was just something that I've always wanted to do," she added. "If people did their research on me on a real level they'd know that no one tells me what to do."

Estelle also said that claims the record executives wanted her to get rid of her "tomboy" hairstyle were untrue.

Estelle and US rapper Kanye West recently got to number one with her single American Boy.
