Ely dental clinic forced to cancel appointments due to dentist shortage

A dental clinic in Ely has been forced to cancel appointments due to a shortage of dentists.

The team at mydentist, which is based in St Mary’s Street, is currently offering priority appointments only due to a shortage of dental staff. Patients who are waiting for treatment and those booked in for routine appointments have been sent a letter outlining the situation. In the letter, the owners of mydentist explain that there is currently a shortage of dentists at the Ely clinic, which means that it is not possible to operate a full schedule.

Due to the reduced availability of appointments, patients who are in the middle of courses of treatment and those who require urgent assistance will be prioritised until a solution has been identified.

The letter offers unreserved apologies to patients who may be inconvenienced and stresses that the mydentist management is working to recruit more dentists. The Ely clinic is the latest in a stream of practices that have experienced difficulties recruiting new dentists, and the situation is representative of a problem that is affecting clinics right across the country. The company has assured patients that it is working hard to find new dentists and increase access to appointments.

Anyone who requires urgent help while the reduced timetable is in force is encouraged to contact the practice directly on 01353 662 159.
