A veteran from North Liberty in Eastern Iowa has plenty to smile about after undergoing extensive dental treatment on Tuesday 25th August. Sixty-nine year old David Meagan received $4,000 worth of free dental treatment as part of an initiative to help veterans, run by Aspen Dental Care.

Mr Meagan was treated by the Aspen Dental team at Coralville after being selected to be part of the Aspen Dental initiative. He was chosen after attending the chain’s National Service Day in June. The national event involved more than 3,500 veterans and was celebrated in 300 clinics in 31 different states. The firm is committed to helping those in need and has a strong relationship with veterans’ associations and organisations all over the country.

Dr Scott Lopshire, who took charge of Mr Meagan’s treatment, said that treating just one patient is a drop in the ocean, but it’s good to give something back and to reward veterans for their selfless efforts in the past. There is a problem with access to dental services in the USA and many veterans find it incredibly difficult to either access or afford dental care. The Aspen Dental scheme is a means of reaching out to those in need and providing them with the care they both need and deserve.

Speaking after his treatment, Mr Meagan said  he couldn’t believe that he was offered the chance to have free dental work and added that he was very grateful to Dr Lopshire and his entire team. Mr Meagan served in the US army and he also worked as a police officer for more than twenty years.

Now, after his treatment, Mr Meagan will be able to enjoy a bright and beaming smile and he will also find speaking and eating a lot easier.
