A dentist from Dundee was forced to cancel appointments following a brazen daytime robbery.

Dr Purvi Patel, from Kingsway Dental Practice, said that a thief strolled into the clinic during the afternoon surgery and made off with a Samsung tablet while the desk was momentarily unmanned by reception staff. The device, which is worth around £180, is an important tool for the business, and the robbery left staff shaken. The unexpected incident also caused disruption for patients. The tablet is used to gain patient consent and signatures, but thankfully, patient data is sorted on a secure server, so the thief will not have access to personal information.

Dr Patel said that the incident had made reception staff feel guilty, and it also resulted in some appointments being cancelled at short notice.

The thief was captured on film by CCTV cameras and an image has been posted on Facebook, but so far, he has not been identified. The incident occurred at around 3.45pm on Wednesday 15th August. Dr Patel contacted the local police force straight after the theft.

The CCTV footage shows a man walking into the clinic, looking at the desk and taking one of two tablets. He then looks around and walks out before cycling off down Kingsway East.

Police have described the thief as a man in his 40’s with short grey hair. He was wearing jogging bottoms, grey shoes and a cream Stone Island jumper at the time of the robbery, and he is of a large build.

Anyone who has information about the incident is advised to call 101 and quote the reference number CR/19777/18.
