Domestic violence victim gets new smile thanks to scheme
Thanks to a new scheme a victim of domestic violence is getting her teeth repaired for free.
Ten years ago Lucretia Williams from Humboldt Park, Chicago, lost two front teeth from her bottom jaw after she was attacked by her husband.
Now she is finally getting her smile fixed thanks to the national Give Back A Smile program.
Ms Williams, 43, said that she used to pull her bottom lip up to try and cover the gap and claimed that it made her self conscious when talking with people.
But Give Back A Smile, which has helped around 827 victims of domestic violence at a cost of $8 million, is now relieving Ms Williams’s worries.
People benefit from the scheme if they have been in abusive relationship for over a year, and they are recommended for treatment after meeting with a counsellor.
Dr Kevin Landers said that he had performed around $50,000 worth of treatment as part of Give Back A Smile.
Ms Williams said she will feel rejuvenated once her smile is back to normal and added that the other women affected by partner violence should keep their heads up.
