The widow of a dentist who spend years campaigning for upgrades to a Croydon dental centre has officially opened a new, state of the art facility in the town.

Virginia Gilmour officially opened the new and improved dental department at Croydon University Hospital, years after her late husband, Graham, started campaigning for changes in the area. Graham fought passionately for modifications to be made to the department, which hadn’t been upgraded for 25 years.

Sadly, Graham passed away in January last year, but Virginia was there to declare the new department open, and she said that her husband would have been “incredibly proud” of the effort made by the team, and amazingly happy that patients in the area would now have access to state of the art services.

The £750,000 upgrade will enable local patients to access modern facilities, as well as providing dental students with first class learning resources. Speaking at the opening, Virginia commented that Graham would be most proud of the training facilities, as he was very passionate about education, and he took on roles as mentor and educator during his career.

The new unit boasts eight treatment rooms and a large waiting area and it has been equipped with the latest technology, including brand new microscopes and comfortable dental chairs. The department is completely digital, and the facility provides a range of treatments, including sedation dentistry.
