Dentists are now likely to save lives
A dental school is claiming that Dentists are more likely to save lives than ever before.
At an international conference professionals said dentists are now more likely to prevent medical conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, problems with pregnancy, diabetes, kidney diseases, Alzheimer's, and many cancers.
The symposium, which was hosted by The Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics in Scottsdale, Arizona, also claimed that the use of advanced non-surgical techniques to make early diagnosis of and treat periodontal disease played a big role in preventing many medical conditions.
Dr Rick Coker, Board member at the Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics, said that dentistry is not simply about filling cavities and creating new smiles - it is about saving lives.
Echoing Dr Coker’s remarks, Dr Lisa Marie Samaha, founder and director of the Perio Arts Institute and dentist at Port Warwick Dental Arts and, said that for first time people are realising the connection between the mouth and the body when it comes to overall health and added that hundreds of dental professionals are leading research to increase their own and their patients understanding about this connection.
