A dentist from East Grinstead is preparing to take on a rowing challenge in aid of charity.

Jaspal Sandhu, of High Street Dental Practice, will row across the English Channel to raise money for the Ahoy Centre in Deptford. Mr Sandhu will be joined by five other rowers for the challenge in July and he is hoping to reach Calais, 21 miles away from Dover, in under four hours.

Mr Sandhu has already raised hundreds of pounds for charity and regularly takes on challenges to support good causes; he said that putting money into a bucket is to easy and he likes to take on new challenges for enjoyment, as well as to raise money.

The Ahoy Centre teaches disabled and underprivileged children to sail and Mr Sandhu said that he is supporting the charity because it provides a brilliant opportunity for children in the Deptford area. There is not much for the children to do around Deptford and the Ahoy Centre gives them the chance to experience sailing and do something completely different.

The challenge will take place in July and Mr Sandhu is also planning to visit Morocco to help local tribes in September.
