Dentist needed in Dalbeattie
A councillor declared his intention to pressure health chiefs to find a replacement dentist for Dalbeattie.
Rob Davidson wants council leader and chair of the community planning board, Ivor Hyslop, to get the empty dental post filled as soon as possible.
Councillor Davidson said the local population had raised concerns about the shutting down of the Dalbeattie clinic and demanded a response from Cllr Hyslop.
Health bosses closed the last NHS dental surgery in Dalbeattie in September 2009, claiming they were going to upgrade the premises. This has not happened.
Cllr Davidson said that several cover stories had been issued to avoid remedying the situation.
As a result, the practice’s 3,000 registered patients had to be transferred to surgeries in Dumfries and Castle Douglas.
Cllr Davidson claims he wants a joint board, which brings together the council, the health board and other community planning groups, to examine the Dalbeattie problem and come up with a solution.
He added that people needed assurance that other dental surgeries would not close in NHS Dumfries and Galloway and said the public were sick of the arms-length approach of the local NHS, including himself among them.
