Dentist Arrested for Suspected Arson Attacks on Rival Dental Clinics
A dentist from Ventura County has been arrested on suspicion of trying to burn down competitive dental practices.
63-year-old Leopold Weinstein from Moorpark was arrested on Friday on 3 incidents of arson, 3 incidents of attempted arson and ownership of a silencer.
The investigation started in June last year, when flammable substances were found on the roof of a dental office in Camarillo. Within a fortnight, another dental practice in that area was set alight but sustained only minimal damage.
Weinstein became a suspect for the incidents when his vehicle, which matched the description of a vehicle involved in other dental practice fires, was seen near one of the targeted offices at an unusual time of day.
Sheriff’s officials say that a surveillance video pictured Weinstein setting fire to the dental practice where the flammable substances were discovered in June. The practice sustained minimal damage.
Weinstein is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
