A dental trio from Harborough is preparing to peddle the pavements to raise money for charity.

Dentist Ed Moncrief, his daughter, Daisy and dental therapist, Steph Cullum, from 2TH Dental, will be cycling to Brighton to raise funds for the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund. The route, which is 150 miles long, will take them to a bench on Brighton sea front, which commemorates the life of Ed’s sister, who died from melanoma in 2006.

The team is setting off from the practice on Northampton Road on August 23rd and the cycle will take place over two days.

The Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund raises money to fund research projects and treatment trials for patients affected by melanoma, as well as raising awareness of the disease and encouraging early diagnosis.

Local businesses, including Hobbs Fishmongers, Simply Simon’s and Duncan Murray Wines, have already donated to the cause and the trip is well on their way to raising the target of £1,000.

Mr Moncrief, principal dentist at the practice, said that the cycle ride is a chance to complete a physical challenge, as well as a great opportunity to raise awareness of melanoma and funds for the charity. The charity is obviously very close to the Harborough dentist’s heart and he is hoping to encourage people to protect their skin in the sun and reduce the risk of melanoma. Mr Moncrief said that it will be very emotional to reach the end of the route and take a seat on his sister’s bench.
