Dental tattooist explains his role

Dental tattooist explains his roleFor those wanting a smile with a difference, tattooist and dental technician Steve Heward could provide the answer. Mr Hewerd specialises in detailed tattoos etched into crowns in the USA, reports Dentistry.co.uk. He explained: "I've been tattooing teeth since the early 1980s and depending on the complexity, it can take from five minutes to and hour or more. But I usually spend a half hour." Designs include Elvis Presley, Abraham Lincoln and animals or birds, with prices from $75 (£36) to $200 depending on the complexity of the design. Although Mr Hewerd hopes that people wait until they need a crown before acquiring the dental tattoos, he thinks some might have it done to get the artwork. The Tooth Artist website has a gallery of the available designs and explains that the designs can be ground off the crown if the consumer grows tired of their unique piece of dental work.
