Dental surgery without the hospital
A dentist has become the first in greater Bristol to offer patients surgery outside of the hospital.
Yate-based Dr Alexander Greig can now perform some oral surgery at his Apple Dental Practice on Wellington Road.
Dr Greig, who worked in hospital-based oral surgery for many years, is part of a South Gloucestershire-wide initiative to reduce the number of people needing hospital treatment.
He said that this new service meant that patients requiring procedures such as wisdom teeth removal could get treatment in his clinic which saved them time and meant they got treatment of a dentist they knew, with the benefit of free parking.
Roger Pedley, South Gloucestershire NHS director of primary and community, called the new service exciting and claimed that it was another example of how service was improving access to care which was closer to patients homes.
