Dental surgery opened in secret

Dental surgery opened in secret
NHS Hampshire has set up a new dental surgery but is keeping its location a secret.

The surgery, which opens today, is being set up to ease the shortage of NHS dentists in the area but health bosses fear masses of patients will appear if its location is announced.

The Lymington-based clinic will be taking on 5,500 patients annually, but to avoid patients flocking to the surgery all at once chiefs are asking for people to register over the phone.

Health bosses are scared of a massive public reaction to the new surgery because there have been increasing concerns about the lack of NHS dentistry in the area.

The Lymington practice, which is part of a £4million attempt to improve dental access in Hampshire, will be the 25th NHS dental centre in the area.

Only 42.75 per cent of local residents have seen a NHS dentist in the last 24 months.

An NHS spokesperson claimed that NHS Hampshire was aware of residents’ concerns and said it was working hard to increase access to NHS dentistry in Hampshire.

Patients can register for the new clinic by phoning the dental helpline on 0845 050 8345.
