A dental student visited the Darlington Rotary Club to share his experiences in Nepal after members of the organisation sponsored his trip.

Jamie Rutherford, who is studying Dentistry at Sheffield University, held a presentation with fellow students, Jake Garner and Edward Walker, to show the Rotary Club members what they had been up to on their study expedition to Nepal.

The students treated almost 350 patients during their visit to a school in Katmandhu, before moving on to the Buddha Dental Hospital, where they were shocked to find the hospital surrounded by cafes and restaurants.

The trip spent 8 days at the hospital before heading out to the villages in Annapurna where they worked non-stop to treat more than 520 patients.

During their time in Nepal, Jamie and his fellow fifth year students overcame power cuts and a language barrier to treat hundreds of people and make a real difference to people in need.

Jamie thanked the Rotary Club for their kind donation to his trip, which helped to pay for some of the supplies and equipment the team took out to Nepal.
