Dental Services Scrapped from Super Clinic

Plans to scrap dental services from a super clinic in Narrendera have been revealed.

The super-clinic was supposed to provide dental services, as well as medical services, however, plans for dental services have now been scrapped and local people will have to face a 60-mile trip to get routine dental treatment.

The new super clinic will house seven GPs, physiotherapy, dietician, podiatry and hearing services, but developers received federal approval for a grant without including dental services in the plan.

Dr Iain Douglas had been offering dental services out of a makeshift clinic, but this was destroyed so that the new super clinic could be built. Dr Douglas, who has worked in the town for 20 years, said that the closure of the dental clinic will affect people in the town in a negative way and many will be angry to have gone from having a makeshift building to having a new purpose built health centre, which cannot provide all the services they need.

Liz Romeo, executive director of Narrandera GP Management and developer of the super clinic, said that spending on the new clinic had become unmanageable and there was no other option but to cut back, with the cuts approved by the Department of Health.
