Dental patient gets payout after botched treatment

A dental patient has been given £50,000 in compensation after she was left in agony after botched dental treatment.

Jean Wall, from Droylesden, visited her dentist to correct a crooked front tooth; however, her treatment went wrong and she was left unable to eat or drink and endured severe pain for prolonged periods of time. Mrs Wall, a grandmother, said the treatment changed her life, leaving her in constant pain and causing her to lose weight and become withdrawn. She was forced to pay £30,000 for another dentist to correct the botched work, which took almost a year.

Mrs Wall agreed to a course of treatment, which included veneers, bleaching, crowns and white fillings; the treatment should have given her a smile to be proud of but it turned into a nightmare, when the patient was left with burnt, swollen lips and damage to the nerves. Mrs Wall said she had also been concerned when the quoted cost of the treatment seemed to spiral out of control and Dr Kwame Gagoh turned up at her house demanding cash; she had decided to have the treatment after her husband died and left her some money.

Mrs Wall’s dentist, Dr Oscar Kwame Gagoh, was finally tracked down after three years of searching by her legal representatives. It was later revealed that he was working under conditions imposed by the General Dental Council and had 13 outstanding county court judgements.

Dr Kwame Gagoh is apparently now working in Michigan in America; he claims he did nothing wrong and continues to practise dentistry.
