Cosmetic dentistry is becoming increasingly popular, as more and more people opt to have treatment to give them the perfect smile and in the last five years alone, the popularity of dental makeovers has increased by 50 percent.

Thanks to amazing advances in science and technology, dentists are now able to offer a vast range of treatments, with practices becoming increasingly like beauty salons, enabling patients to select specific treatments to give them a particular look. In addition to popular treatments, such as tooth whitening and invisible braces, newer trends, such as tooth jewellery, are also taking off.

Dr Ekta Chadha, a consultant aesthetic dental surgeon at Max Hospital and Smile Studio, said that patient numbers had increased by 50 percent over the last five years and there has been a shift in the clientele. Previously, cosmetic dentistry was restricted to the rich and famous, but treatments and services are now accessible to all, thanks to payment plans and more affordable prices.

Dr Vishal Gupta, consultant orthodontist and cosmetic dentist from Fortis Escorts and Medanta Medicity Hospital, said that people are always on the look out for ways to improve the aesthetic of their teeth and make their smile unique. In recent years, inking and tooth adornment have become very popular. The simple procedure to fit a gem stone to the tooth takes just 10 minutes and is completely painless and clients can choose from an array of different styles and colours. Inking is a way of branding and decorating the teeth and Dr Gupta said that the procedure is particularly popular with young people, who tend to choose words or letters and cartoon characters.
