Dentists across the Philippines have joined forces to raise awareness of oral health as part of dental health month.

Dental health month has been celebrated in February for many years; in the 1950’s dental health week was launched and the event was changed to dental health month in 2004. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of oral health in the country and encourage people to take care of their teeth and gums.

Dental health month is a high-profile event, with a carnival atmosphere; dental events, educational sessions and free clinics run alongside street dancers and street performers and everyone is encouraged to get involved in the annual celebration.

In order to encourage good oral health habits from a young age, the government encourages schools to team up with local dentists; activities are scheduled and the community is encouraged to take part and learn about oral health.

The campaign is run by the Philippine Dental Association in conjunction with the government.
