Dental Charges Increase In Wales

Sample News Big

Dental charges increased in Wales on Saturday; however they are still considerably lower than fees in England.

Patients were advised of the proposed increases earlier in the year and changes came into play on Saturday 1st September. Now, Welsh dental patients will pay £12.40 for band 1 treatments, £40.20 for band 2 treatments and £177 for band 3 treatments.

Band 1 treatments include a routine check-up, diagnosis and preventative treatment, while band 2 covers all band 1 treatments plus fillings, root canal treatment and tooth extraction; band 3 fees cover all band 1 and 2 treatments plus more complex treatments, such as crowns.

People who are exempt from NHS dental charges will continue to receive free dental care.

This is the first time dental fees have increased in Wales since 2006; the changes represent a 2 per cent increase.
