Dental Board files complaint against tanning salon

The Wyoming Board of Dental Examiners has filed a complaint against a local tanning salon.

The Board has asked Natrona County Court to impose an injunction against Bronze Bottom Tanning in Plaza Drive. The Board is objecting to teeth whitening treatments that are offered alongside tanning treatments at the salon.

The teeth whitening kits, which are offered for $49.95 are offered in addition to two UV lamp sessions, which last fifteen minutes and cost $149. The Wyoming Board of Examiners has criticised the salon for offering dental treatments without the necessary dental skills and aftercare. Executive director, Debra Bridges, said the number of complaints made about teeth whitening treatments in salons is increasing every year and they will continue to fight against the procedure being carried out by people who are not professionally trained in dentistry.

Kris and Randy Hollis, who own the Bronze Bottom salon, said that a fuss is being made over nothing. The whitening kit sold at the salon is very simple and straightforward and carries very little risk. Mr Hollis said that the salon did not treat, examine or diagnose any dental health issues; he also said the whitening kits were exactly the same as those on sale at high street stores and supermarkets across the UK.

It remains to be seen how the future will pan out; if the injunction is granted, Bronze Bottom tanning will be forced to stop selling the whitening kit.
