Cosmetic dentistry ‘reduces signs of ageing’

Cosmetic dental work such as lengthening and reshaping can reduce the signs of ageing, it has been claimed.

According to dentist Dan Deutsch, a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dentistry, making front teeth appear longer by augmenting them with porcelain veneers has the effect of knocking off the years.

As a person ages, the skin around them mouth loses its tautness, thereby exposing less of their teeth.

Speaking to news outlet NPR.org, Mr Deutsch said: "Every decade over the age of 30 you show a millimetre less of your front teeth. It’s an older look."

He cited one patient who had come to him for porcelain veneers.

"I gave her back a young look by just giving her the right length and this makes people feel better about themselves," he added.

According to British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the cosmetic dentistry market in the UK is estimated to be worth at least £280 million a year.
