A dental nurse from Cookstown is hosting a charity quiz night to fund a trip to Cambodia. Claudia McClung will travel to Cambodia with Dentaid to provide basic dental care for some of the world’s poorest people.

Claudia will be hosting the quiz at the Royal Hotel on the 19th May at 7.30pm. Admission is £3 per person with a maximum number of six players per team. There will also be a raffle, with several prizes to be won.

Claudia is travelling to Cambodia as part of a mission organised by the charity, Dentaid. Dentaid works to provide emergency dental care and relief to people living in poverty across the world. Volunteers from the UK take part in projects throughout the year and their skills help to provide people, many of whom have never seen a dentist before, with comfort, education and pain relief.

Claudia said that she felt compelled to help out after hearing about the project and learning that people in South East Asia are suffering from terrible illnesses as a result of being unable to access even the most basic and routine treatments. Claudia will be joined by a team of dental nurses and dentists from England. While they are in Cambodia, the team will be working in a completely different environment and they will have to deal with unpredictable conditions. Each volunteer is raising money to fund their transport and accommodation and the group will also be taking dental supplies out with them. As well as providing pain relief and treatment, the team will also be offering preventative services, including fluoride varnish.
