‘Continued maintenance essential’ for teeth whitening
Teeth whitening patients need to maintain regular upkeep of their brighter smile, it has been claimed.
According to The White Teeth Company, following the procedure teeth can often become stained again after a few months if they are not maintained.
"The investment incurred to have the treatment will be wasted," the firm stated.
It claims that stains caused by caffeine, coffee, tea, red wine and gravy are just some of the substances which can restain teeth.
Laser teeth whitening, also known as zoom teeth whitening, can be carried out at a cosmetic dentist or a beauty salon and involves a stain remover application which is then activated by a laser light.
A gum dam is applied to the mouth to protect the gums during treatment.
However, the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry has previously warned that many beauty salons are currently offering unregulated teeth whitening.
The industry body claimed that although these treatments may be cheaper, they can often be unsafe.
