Consumers ‘seek expert advice’ in cosmetic dentistry

People are much more likely to buy a teeth whitening product that has been personally recommended by a cosmetic dentist, it has been claimed.

Reported in the New York Times, a number of cosmetic dentists have begun either designing their own products or are planning to.

Dr Pia Leib, a US cosmetic dentist, told the newspaper that she developed a product which combines tooth whitener, lip gloss and lip plumper.

She explained that as a woman who is interested in beauty, she has more insight to what females want from a product than a man.

"Today’s consumer would rather spend a few dollars more on products created by a dentist because they’re getting a professional who’s looked at your mouth and knows your oral health," said Laura Kelly, president of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. "They want that expert advice."

Charla Krupp, former beauty director at Glamour magazine, recently told Time magazine that teeth whitening treatments are an effective anti-ageing treatment as bright, shiny teeth are a sign of youth. ADNFCR-1374-ID-18421830-ADNFCR
