Colchester dentists prepare for painful charity waxing ordeal in memory of their colleague

Sample News Big

Dentists from Colchester are preparing to endure painful waxing treatments to raise money for a colleague, who sadly passed away last year.

A trio of dentists from The Dental Studio in Bergholt Road will be joined by local councillor, Martin Goss, for the unusual challenge. The team is hoping to raise as much money as possible for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) after dental nurse, Elise Fitzpatrick, died suddenly at the age of 24. Elise had a cardiac condition, which presented no symptoms, and had passed undiagnosed. Her cause of death was recorded as sudden adult death syndrome.

Principal dentist, Stephen Pitt, said that Elise’s passing had affected everyone and it was a horrible shock. He remembers taking the call, and then having to tell the rest of the team. Elise died from sudden adult death syndrome, which is a heart condition, which causes no symptoms. However, problems can be detected by an echocardiogram, and this is why the practice is so keen to support CRY. CRY provides support for families who have lost loved ones, but it also works incredibly hard to raise awareness of sudden adult death syndrome, and it provides free cardiac screening at locations across the country.

Dr Pitt is one of three dentists taking the plunge and having his back waxed on May 20th. Although he is nervous about the pain, he is thrilled to be supporting the charity and to be doing something in Elise’s memory.

The female members of staff are not getting off lightly, as they will be participating in a 10km run on the same weekend.
