Coast tooth fairy fights dental-phobia

Children suffering from dental phobia are being eased into their treatment using a unique method at a Gold Coast dental clinic. Children who visit the TFI Dental Spa in Labrador, Queensland, are eased of their fears of the dentist chair by Stephanie Wilson, who dresses up as a tooth fairy. Children have the option to be treated by her in full costume and to also have a photo taken with her.

Ms Wilson, who has been promoting the awareness and treatment of dental phobia as part of Oral Health Month, has not stopped at simply helping those who come into the clinic. She has been traveling all across the Gold Coast to help bring information to children with dental phobia; by going to schools and telling them stories about the tooth fairy.

Stephanie Wilson has also written her first children’s book, designed to help provide positivity to the idea of visiting the dentist, entitled “The Story of the Tooth fairy.” The book, released this month, tells the story of a young child who visits the tooth fairy who then ensures that they have a fun experience at the dentist. A dollar from each sale of the book will go towards the local schools that Ms. Wilson visits.

Of the experience she provides, Ms. Wilson was quoted as stating; ‘I love it when the children enjoy coming to see me. It’s a place that all kids love – it’s fun and magical.’
