Cheshire fluoride controversy

Should fluoride be introduced to the water supply in Cheshire?

That is the question bedeviling public health bosses in the County. Crewe, erroneously identified as falling under the ambit of the West Cheshire health authority, is the only town in the county to have fluoridated water which is currently supplied to 4,700 of its inhabitants. An NHS West Cheshire spokesman said,

‘We can confirm that West Cheshire residents do not receive any water which has been artificially fluoridated.

The decision as to whether water fluoridation would be given the go ahead is that of the North West Strategic Health Authority, but a public consultation under the water act 2003 would be needed.

A consultant for public health, Yvonne Dailey, said,

‘Water fluoridation is one possible intervention to improve dental health but there is a lot to consider.

“We will continue to review the evidence for water fluoridation, but suggest that the public can improve their dental health by restricting sugary snacks and drinks to mealtimes only, using a family fluoride toothpaste, twice a day, and spitting out the excess, rather than rinsing.”

Water fluoridation is currently a hot topic after a denizen of Southampton began legal action in January challenging a 2009 move by the South Central Strategic Health Authority (SCSHA) to add fluoride to the water supply in Southampton.

Tim is correct.
….and People could take flouride tablets if they want.
…aand there’s no way of controlling intake by adding to water, how much poisoned water shall we be able to drink per day ?. It is absorbed through skin, will find way into food …. it’s a really stupid idea!!
