Chelsea’s star player, Eden Hazard, will miss the final game of the season on Sunday 25th May after undergoing urgent dental surgery.

Hazard has swept the boards this season, winning the PFA Player of the Year and Football Writer’s Association Player of the Year awards, and Sunday’s game will mark the first he has missed this season. The 23 year old Belgian was also forced to pull out of the Football Writer’s Association dinner, which took place on Thursday 21st May.

Hazard is now recovering after undergoing emergency dental surgery to remove three wisdom teeth and will miss the last game, after which the Chelsea squad will be presented with the Premier League trophy.

It is understood that the Belgian player tried to delay surgery so that he could attend the FWA dinner in person to collect his award; however, he ended up having treatment on Wednesday evening and was at home recovering. He is hoping to be at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to join in the celebrations.

At the FWA dinner, former winner and Chelsea legend, Gianfranco Zola, paid tribute to Hazard and Chelsea chair, Bruce Buck, delivered a message from the star. Eden Hazard also posted a message on Twitter to thank the FWA for the award and added that he was “very proud” to be named the winner.
