Bromsgrove Residents Invited to Attend Oral Cancer Screening

Sample News Big

Residents of Bromsgrove are being invited to attend free oral cancer screening sessions as part of Mouth Cancer Action Month.

College Road Dental Practice will be offering free screening clinics between the 13th and 19th November to try and raise awareness of oral cancer and encourage patients to look out for warning signs, such as abnormal swellings in the mouth or throat, red or white patches in the mouth and ulcers that heal very slowly. The sessions will be open to anyone, not just registered patients.

Dr Martina Fell said that the sessions are designed to educate people about the causes and symptoms of mouth cancer, which is becoming increasingly common. Many people are unaware of the symptoms they should be looking for and as a result of this most cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, when treatment is less likely to succeed. Dr Fell added that the surgery has had a few cases of oral cancer in recent months and the team is eager to promote regular checks to ensure that any cases are diagnosed as early as possible.

The screening sessions will be held between 1 and 2 o’clock from Monday to Thursday and 12 and 1 o’clock on Friday. The test is very quick and does not involve any pain. Dentists are eager for as many people as possible to get checked out and anyone who is interested or wants to know more about the sessions is encouraged to ring the surgery.
