Botox insurance policy available for cosmetic dentists

Botox insurance policy available for cosmetic dentistsCosmetic dentists can now get indemnity insurance for administering Botox injections, it has been announced.

Rupert Hoppenbrouwers, head of the Dental Defence Union (DDU), explained that the body is now covering cosmetic procedures such as Botox and dermal fillers to the lips or face in response to their growing popularity in the last decade.

Mr Hoppenbrouwers told Dentistry magazine that there is increasing demand for treatments which improve the aesthetic appearance of the face and teeth.

When asked how many claims he thinks there will be under the new insurance product, he explained that there are a number of problems which may arise regarding fillers or Botox.

"Patient expectations may be unrealistic or patients may not realise that the treatment is not permanent," he said. "The results of these types of cosmetic procedures can also be unpredictable and improvements variable."

Jenny Driscoll, health campaigner at Which? magazine, recently explained that there is a high risk when receiving Botox injections at a non-professional clinic as there is a chance of an anaphylactic shock reaction, reports the Daily Telegraph.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18560636-ADNFCR
