Bolton Dental Patients waiting 2 Years between Check-ups

Recent figures show that almost half of dental patients in Bolton have not seen a dentist for two years.

The figures also show that the number of people visiting an NHS dentist has decreased. The statistics, from the NHS Information Centre, show that the proportion of adults in the borough that have seen a dentist in the last two years has fallen from 54 percent in 2006 to 52.9 percent in 2008.

A spokesperson for NHS Bolton said that there are places available in the borough but people do not want to use the services. Figures show that by the end of April this year, 61 percent of adults in the area should have access to an NHS dentist and by 2013, the figures should be 66 percent.

The spokesperson said that NHS Bolton is working with practices in the area to increase the number of places available to patients, with approximately 500 appointments given to new patients every month in the borough and health chiefs are eager for people to use the services available to them.

Anyone who wants to register with a dentist is advised to call the Patient Advice and Liaison Service or visit the NHS Choices website.
