A woman from Bolsover has been left with devastating injuries following an unprovoked attack by a 30 year old man.

Margaret Denton requires more than £5,500 worth of dental treatment after she was attacked by Jason Eyre on a night out in June last year. Ms Denton suffered a fractured tooth and lost a dental bridge in the attack, which took place on June 28th outside the Castle Arms. Mr Eyre thought that Ms Denton had hit his girlfriend and punched her forcefully in the face. The single punch was powerful enough to leave the victim with severe facial injuries.

In court in Derby on Friday 23rd January, Mr Eyre wept as the charges were read out. Mr Eyre has 19 previous convictions. He pleaded guilty to the attack at an earlier hearing and was jailed for eight months. It is understood that Mr Eyre had consumed two bottles of Jagermeister and was “heavily intoxicated” at the time of the incident.

Prosecutor Sarah Slater said that Ms Denton had been left terrified by the attack and was a “nervous wreck” and a “shadow of her former self”. She now requires more than £5,000 worth of dental treatment in addition to surgery to treat a slipped disc.

Acting on behalf of Mr Eyre, David Webster said that Mr Eyre had not thought due to the fact that he was intoxicated and he lashed out. He added that Mr Eyre was very sorry about the attack and he had not intended to hurt Ms Denton.
