Blue is the New Black for Winchester Dentists Supporting Mouth Cancer Campaign

A dental team from Winchester has sported a bold new look in support of a national mouth cancer campaign. The team from St Cuthbert’s Dental Surgery has been sporting blue lipstick to raise awareness of mouth cancer ahead of November’s Mouth Cancer Action Month campaign.

Dentists, nurses, reception staff and hygienists at the practice all wore blue lipstick to raise awareness of the campaign, which will run throughout November. The practice will be holding a series of screening sessions and staff members will also be talking to patients about the causes of oral cancer and how to spot it.

The team is encouraging people who have had a screening test to wear blue lipstick and share a ‘selfie’ via social media sites to spread the message far and wide and encourage as many people as possible to get screened this November.

Screening tests only take a few minutes, but they can make a massive difference, as they are able to detect changes to the soft tissue before they become visible to the human eye and this means that any cases can be diagnosed and treated as early as possible.

The number of people affected by mouth cancer has grown significantly in the last decade and dentists all over the country are teaming up with dental and mouth cancer charities to raise awareness of the disease, educate people about the signs and symptoms and encourage them to visit a dental surgery for screening.

A spokesman for St Cuthbert’s said that the team is honoured to be supporting Mouth Cancer Action Month and is inviting everyone to come in for a quick and painless screening test.
