Birmingham Tops List for Avoiding the Dentist

A survey, carried out by a website offering shopping and restaurant voucher codes, has revealed that people in Birmingham are more likely to delay dental treatment than any other city in the UK.

Research carried out by the discount website showed that more people in Birmingham have delayed or cancelled dental appointments than other parts of the UK, mostly due to a lack of funds.

The survey, which was conducted by www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, involved more than 2,000 people and aimed to deduce whether peoples’ financial situation impacted upon the frequency of health visits. The results of the survey showed that almost a third of people said that they didn’t arrange regular dental visits and the majority of people blamed the cost of treatment.

The results of the survey will come as alarming news for dental experts, as regular dental visits are an important means of preventing oral health diseases. Dentists advise patients to attend dental check-ups every six to twelve months, depending on their oral health status. Regular dental visits allow dentists to identify and treat early symptoms of oral health problems, such as gum disease and tooth decay.

The results of the survey support findings from other studies and polls, which have revealed that a growing number of people are putting off going to the dentist because they cannot afford the cost of treatment.
