Big Cats Pay a Visit to the Dentist in Center Point

Sample News Big

A team of volunteers enjoyed a dental date with some of the world’s most treasured species last weekend (April 16th and 17th). A team of vets, technicians and nurses gathered at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center to treat a host of big cats in need of dental attention.

During the course of the weekend, the team treated eight big cats including a number of tigers, a lion and a puma. The event was part of the work done by the Peter Emily International Veterinary Dental Foundation.

A team of around fifteen volunteers worked hard over the weekend to provide a range of dental treatments for their big cat patients. Dental treatment may be made more complex by the size of the animal, but the procedures are essentially very similar to those carried out on humans. Examples of treatments provided included cleaning treatments and root canal therapy. Root canal work is designed to treat an infected tooth and often works as an alternative to tooth extraction.

After treatment, it can take some time for the big cats to come around and the team kept a close eye on the cats to make sure they rested. The group of cats is now fighting fit with sparkling, healthy smiles.
