BDA Warns Against Hike in Tuition Fees

Sample News Big

The British Dental Association has issued a warning over the increase in tuition fees and Representatives from the association have written to the government to outline the potential implications for the future of the profession.

The BDA has sent a detailed review, outlining the impact of increased tuition fees, which will mean that many dental students emerge from university with crippling debts of around £50,000. According to the BDA, many students will be put off by the thought of having so much debt before they can even secure a job, which could be very damaging in the future.

The association also raised concerns that the hike in fees will lead to a lack of diversity in the profession, as people from low income families and ethnic minorities are likely to be worst affected by the increased price of university education.

The review also mentioned that the NHS may struggle to recruit dentists in the future, as graduates seek to maximise their earnings to pay off their debts.

The BDA has accepted that changes need to be made to the university education system, but they felt it necessary to voice concerns over the future of the dental profession so that government ministers can discuss the issues and identify solutions.
