A Basildon man suffered extensive dental injuries in a vicious attack by men on bikes. Paul Nicholls, 60, was walking near The Fryth in Basildon earlier this month when he was attacked by two men in their twenties.

The men punched the 60 year old and asked him to hand over £1, which he did not have on him. He lost his front tooth and his denture was damaged. He also sustained facial injuries and is now scared to go out. Mr Nicholls described the attack, saying that he received an “almighty right hook” that knocked him to the ground. An elderly couple came to his rescue and took him into their house, where they called the police. Mr Nicholls said he remembers putting his hand to his mouth and seeing it covered in blood.

Following the incident, which he described as “horrendous” and “unforgivable”, Mr Nicholls said that he is wary of other people and doesn’t feel confident going out on his own, especially at night. He has been advised by dentists that he will need a series of appointments to replace the damaged plate. His treatment will cost in the region of £220.

The attack took place on the 8th August at around 6.15am. Essex Police are appealing for anyone who has information about the incident or the two suspects, who are described as males in their 20s, to come forward.
