Barboursville residents will be able to receive free dental care courtesy of a one-day special clinic hosted by the Piedmont Regional Mission of Mercy.

The one-off event will be held on the 1st May and patients that want free treatment are advised to start registering now. Volunteer dentists and hygienists will offer their services from 6 o’clock in the morning and expect to treat between 600 and 700 patients. Patients will be able to receive scale and polishing, extractions and restorative procedures.

The clinic is aimed at adults from low income families and people without comprehensive insurance plans or any insurance at all. Mission of Mercy aims to help people that would otherwise struggle to get treatment because they can’t afford the care they need.

Millions of adults and children do not have insurance policies or enough money to pay for dental care in America; without charitable events like this one hosted by the Piedmont Regional Mission of Mercy, many of them would go without the treatment they desperately need. Dentists who work at these events often say that the patients who come to visit them haven’t seen a dentist in several years and are consequently suffering from extensive tooth decay and other oral health issues.

The problem of affordable health and dental care in the USA is well-documented; however, people now have new hope after President Obama’s healthcare reform bill was passed. New measures will be brought in to create a more level playing field and provide care for everyone that needs it; changes are planned to take place in the next 3 or 4 years.
