Bad breath – the best kept secret

A recent poll has shown that nine out of ten people who have bad breath are unwilling to inform family and friends.
The survey was carried out on over 1,500 patients at a dental practice in Cheshire, with most patients found to keep bad breath a secret rather than let others know.
Such startling figures have led to Manor Dental Practice in the area of Sale, where the survey was carried out, to open an emergency fresh breath clinic.
Dr Anjali Shahi, founder of the practice, said: “It was after one patient requested that I help to freshen up his breath for a first date that I realised this would be a great service for men and women on the go.”
Dr Shahi said she was surprised at the number of people who did not inform family or friends that they had bad breath. “No one likes to be rude, but I did expect a few more people would come forward and tell others when their breath smells.”
Bad breath is a condition caused by the gases which come off the bacteria that cover your teeth and gums, which is why dental hygiene should always be upheld.
Behaviours such as smoking and eating foods like garlic and onions can also be short term causes of bad breath. One simple sign to find whether you have bad breath is to lick your wrist, and then smell it. The scent will give you the answer.
