Babyboomers are fuelling the increase in cosmetic dentistry, reports the South Bend Tribune.

According to the newspaper, the explosion in patient demand for cosmetic dental treatments is due to the trend of older people taking more of an interest in their appearance.

Dr James Douglas, a dentist, told the publication: "People want to look like people who are in Hollywood and in the public eye. They want to have a better smile and brighter teeth."

He added that a major part of adult cosmetic dental treatments include orthodontics.

Many patients want their front teeth straightened, Dr Douglas explained, adding that the majority are solely concerned with the teeth on display when they smile.

Older patients – aged 70 and over – want their cosmetic treatments to make them look younger, he continued, with whiter crowns, veneers and bridges being the preferred procedures.

According to the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, television makeovers have sparked an increase in demand for veneers.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18486167-ADNFCR
