Atletico Madrid defender undergoes urgent dental surgery following horror collision
Atletico Madrid’s captain, Diego Godin, has undergone dental surgery following a horror collision in a match against Valencia over the weekend. Godin was involved in a clash with the opposition goalkeeper, Neto, which left him with missing teeth.
Godin and the Valencia player were going for the same ball when they collided during the match on Sunday 4th February. The goalkeeper caught Godin in the face with his elbow and gruesome TV replays captured images of the defender’s teeth flying from his mouth.
The club has since confirmed that Godin had emergency surgery following the match. A statement revealed that Godin suffered extensive facial and dental injuries during the game. It is believed that he lost three of his teeth as a result of the challenge.
In addition to the departure of the Atletico captain, the team also lost Stefan Savic before half time. Diego Simeone’s team lost 1-0 and are now nine points behind Barcelona.
