Donside’s Westhill Dental Practice is playing host to eight children from Chernobyl on Friday as part of a charity project to provide care for those affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

The dental team will be welcoming eight young girls from Chernobyl in the Ukraine as part of a project organised by CCLC, Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline Charity. The girls are visiting the UK for a recuperation break lasting four weeks.

Each year, the charity organises trips for children from the area to enable them to explore the UK and see the sights and enjoy fun-packed activities. The girls are being hosted by local families.

Many of the children living in Chernobyl suffer illnesses as a result of the nuclear accident, which occurred in 1986 and the team from Westhill Dental Practice will be on hand to provide dental care for the girls. They will attend the practice with their host families and an interpreter and the team is going all out to make them feel welcome. For most, this will be the first time in the dental chair and the dentists are eager to make the girls feel relaxed, as we all know that going to the dentist can be a little daunting.
