A Third of Brits Cannot Afford to go to the Dentist

A survey has revealed that a third of Brits struggle to afford dental treatment.

The Bupa survey found that 34 percent of people do not visit their dentist on a regular basis as a result of cost and a third said that they had ended up in debt as a result of paying for dental care.

More than half of people polled admitted that they do not go to the dentist regularly. Of those polled, only 1 in 10 had dental insurance.

Despite the worry about cost, 7 percent of people said that they would take out a loan or borrow money to fund dental treatment and around half of those surveyed said they believed people who have an attractive smile do better in life.

Brian Franks, clinical director of dentistry at Bupa, said that a healthy, attractive smile boosts confidence, which can make a massive difference in both personal and professional relationships.

A different study, which was carried out by YouGov, revealed that employees would appreciate dental benefits as part of their employment package, with access to dental care and value for money the main priorities.
