Listerine
Named after Joseph Lister, the person historically responsible for the introduction of sterilisation to the medical profession, Listerine is sold in both the UK and US as well as other markets, being one of the biggest mouthwash brands in the US.
Listerine was originally forumlated as a surgical antiseptic, then marketed in a diluted version as a solution to bad breath which had previously not even been seen as a real problem by people. The brand has developed and changed massively since its first sale as mouthwash in 1921, with the original strong taste being made milder or replaced with other flavourings as well as various changes to the formula made for reasons of effectiveness.
